↳ (4/10) Alphonse Elric: "How am I supposed to fight in that body!?"
My love for Alphonse grew immensely after this part. Can you imagine - he’s been searching for years and years for his body and finally, it’s right in front of him. But then he’s left with a choice; take his body and be useless in the battlefield or fight. You can see how frustrated and conflicted he is with that choice but he still chooses to reject his body and go fight. He wants to help everyone and protect them. He doesn’t want what happened to Hughes, Martel and Nina to happen again - he wants to help people, even if it means sacrificing the one thing he wants the most. Al is, by far, the most noble character in this manga.
Seeing people die before my eyes… I hate it, I’m tired of it! I’m not going to let anyone die anymore! I’ll protect you!
“A lesson without pain is meaningless, that’s because you cannot gain something without sacrificing something else in return but once you’ve with stood that pain and over come it you will gain a heart that is stronger than everything else…”
You cannot gain anything without sacrificing something.

Your hands aren’t meant for killing people
There’s no such thing as a painless lesson. They just don’t exist. Sacrifices are necessary. You can’t gain anything without losing something first. Although, if you can endure that pain, and walk away from it … you will find that you now have a heart strong enough to overcome any obstacle. Yeah. A heart made fullmetal.

Alphonse Elric: All things are connected?
Edward Elric: Everything is in the middle of a great, unseen flow. I don’t know if you’d call it the universe, or the world, or whatever. Looking at it as this huge thing. Al, you and I are like ants. One small part within the flow. Nothing more than on fraction of the whole. But putting all those small “ones” together allows the “all” to exist.
How come... all I can ever do is wait?
Give me back my little brother!
